The Bay is CAMRA Pub of the year (runner up)

The Bay staff are celebrating the news that they have been voted runner up in the 2010 Pub of the Year Camra awards. The winner was the Whitehouse in Peel, who have now won it ( deservedly ) for an unprecedented 3 years running. It makes you wonder if it’s like the World Cup, whereby 3 years winning entitled Brazil to keep the trophy! The other runner up, incidentally was the Rovers Return, our sister pub in Douglas, which goes some way to reinforce our claim of Bushy’s being the Island’s favourite beer.

Beer Festival planned for MGP 2010

The Bay are planning a real ale and cider festival to run for the 2 weeks of this year’s Manx Grand Prix. The starting date will be Friday 21st August and it will run until the final Race day on the 3rd of September, or until the beer runs out!! There will be at least 2 dozen beers on offer, plus many real ciders and perry, both on draught and in bottle.

Just a quick update.

Wi-Manx now have the wireless link to the beer-tent and have begun setting up their kit. It’s looking as though we’ll have the first camera operational tomorrow (and possibly the others).

The Bay — new decked area opens

The Bay, Port Erin has opened its long awaited decked area at the front of the pub, overlooking the islands most beautiful and popular beach. It has 8 tables which can accommodate up to 40 people for meals or just a relaxing pint of Bushy’s finest!

The Castletown Festival is 50 years old this year. Sadly, most of the island’s towns have lost their community festivals, but of those that remain Castletown is has one of the best. August 5th is the date.

Amongst the attractions are the crowning of Castletown Queen, Fashion Contests, Bouncy Castles, fun stalls and a Fancy dress parade. Then there is the Grand Confetti Carnival and dance in the square, and it’s all topped off with a firework display. To celebrate the golden anniversary, the Festival has commissioned a Bushy’s special bottled beer. Stocks are limited, so get one or two so you can sell them on eBay on the 100th anniversary.

Another fine celebration is the reinstatement of the Snaefell waterwheel in Laxey.

The Laxey Mines Research Group has installed the 50ft diameter wheel downstream from the famous Lady Isabella wheel. The smaller wheel, built in 1865 will be officially named at the opening ceremony. (See press for details.)

And in the old days how would miners celebrate? With a pint or two of course! And who did the Mines group look to to brew the best? No prizes for guessing.
